My Story

Hello, and welcome! My name is Dr. Michael Leptic, and I am a mental health professional, professor, researcher, and life coach. My academic background includes a Bachelor of Science in Psychology, a Master of Arts in Psychology, and, in 2023, a Ph.D. in Psychology with honors specializing in addictions from National University (formerly Northcentral).

 

My professional background comprises over 23 years of professional management experience in various employee facets, including behavioral health and education roles, and I am a Registered Psychology Associate through the Maryland Board of Examiners of Psychologists. As a crisis clinician, I work with patients with dual diagnoses, helping them stabilize from a mental health crisis and connecting them with community-based resources for continued long-term support.

I am a professor of psychology (adjunct faculty) at Southern New Hampshire University, where I am approved to teach various courses, including Abnormal Psychology, Introduction to Psychology, Cognitive Psychology, Foundations of Addiction, and Research Methods. I firmly believe that education, whether in the traditional or non-traditional form, is imperative to our society, and we should provide educational opportunities to those who desire intellectual advancement. 

 

My research areas include addiction and how individuals, especially the 18 to 25 population, can overcome substance-related abuse for long-term recovery. My main focus is Collegiate Recovery Programs (CRP) and the need to expand these programs at colleges and universities nationwide to aid young adults in deterring illicit substance use and abuse, which was the focus of my doctorate dissertation. My full dissertation may be found under publications.

 

I look forward to continuing my work in the mental health and addiction field, significantly expanding my roles in clinical psychology, higher education, and research.
